Over the last several years hearing aids have advanced in technology like never before. New and innovative products are coming out every year. When I began practicing we were lucky to get something new every 2-3 years. There are many manufacturers that make high quality products for all types of hearing loss, cosmetic concerns, listening situations, and life styles. However, no matter how great the technology is you still need someone to make it work for your individual hearing loss. This is where having a competent and sincere audiologist/hearing instrument specialist comes in. I find this to be one of the most important aspects of hearing success. Make sure that your provider is sincere in wanting to help you hear better. You need to know that this is someone who is willing to work with you no matter what it takes. It does you no good to get quality aids from the "cheapest place" if they are not willing to build a relationship with you and take the time to address your concerns. The technology cannot do it alone. Imagine a finely tuned race car. If I were to drive this car against a professional driver who do you think would win? Although we both have the same technology in the car it is obvious I would not stand a chance. Hearing aids can be thought of the same way. The experience and knowledge of the person "driving" your hearing aids will go along way in the success you have. So feel free to call and see if I'm the audiologist who can help you.
Sincerely,
John Scarlas, M.S., CCC-A
